GIS at Grenspark De Zoom

The second part of the workshop was meant to share experiences between the management of Grenspark De Zoom at the border between Belgium and the Netherlands and the Bulgarian Nature Parks. The workshop was focussed on the use of GIS and Remote Sensing tools to sensibly increase the park management quality. For the grenspark site you can click on the image :



Grenspark expert Mr. Ignace Ledegen presented several topics at the workshop:
  • Some general aspects to consider when using spatial data in a Nature Park.
Following subjects of park management using GIS were presented:
  • Management of entertainment and tourist accommodation in the nature park using GIS
  • Calculation of threats to the park. Human threats and natural threats
  • Management of monitored data in the park
  • GIS as the covering management information system for the park
As the park is also using Remote Sensing techniques, some concrete examples of their applications were shown:
  • Forest Management and change detection: clear cutting
  • Land Cover Change Detection
  • drying out of wetlands, forest change, …
  • Disease detection
